Old Windows Can Be Restored Instead of Replaced

A lot of homeowners have chosen to use vinyl replacement windows. There is plenty of debate over that option, and as Jerry Springer would say, “that is another show”! We have kept the original sash in our home and I am much happier for it.

These windows came out of a historic John Calvin Stevens designed house. The windows operate on a weight and pulley system and have zinc interlocking weather stripping.  The weather stripping makes the window sash a little more challenging to remove but with a little finesse, the windows are out and the weather stripping is in good shape.

I will collect more information on the pros and cons of replacement v. restoration as we go along and invite professionals on both sides to publish their opinions. For now, let’s get to work!
